About My Father is a family-centered comedy inspired by the real-life relationship between comedian Sebastian Maniscalco and his father.
Sebastian (played by himself) plans to propose to his fiancée Ellie, a woman from a wealthy and very liberal American family. At her encouragement, he invites his blunt, old-school Italian immigrant father, Salvo Maniscalco (played by Robert De Niro), to join them for a weekend with her family at their posh country estate.
As cultures and class collide, Salvo’s presence creates chaos and hilarity. His unapologetically traditional values and straight-shooting nature clash with Ellie’s eccentric and privileged family. However, amid the awkward encounters and culture shock, the weekend becomes a heartfelt journey of identity, family roots, and love.
