(Welland, Ontario) July 19, 2019 – During the month of June, Seaway Mall & GIANT FM teamed up to accept the challenge of helping the YWCA Niagara in ‘Building Up’ Homelessness! A campaign designed to help the YWCA Niagara ‘build up’ the YWCA Niagara Cardboard House brick-by-brick through community support donations. (photos below)
Seaway Mall & 91.7 GIANT FM raised over $5,000.00 in June 2019 by requesting donations from the community and hosting family-focused events at Seaway Mall. “We knew that having the Cardboard House in a location with consistent traffic would be the key to a successful fundraising and awareness campaign for YWCA Niagara,” said Mike Belcastro, Seaway Mall President, “While having the opportunity to walk through the Cardboard House in June, Seaway Mall hosted several events/performances to help bring more people to the Seaway Mall. With volunteer support from Welland Be In Christ Church the YWCA volunteers were able to educate a new audience with the amazing work YWCA Niagara does in our community,” he continued.
GIANT FM held a live broadcast from Centre Court on June 27th and raised almost $3000, GIANT FM hosts; Brian Salmon, KK and Jef Brown, attracted residents from all over the Niagara Region, to come to Centre Court and make a donation and we are so grateful to those who took time out of their day to make a donation and had the opportunity to meet these fantastic radio hosts!
“At 91.7 GIANT FM & COUNTRY 89 we are grateful to be in a position to help and support a great local organization such as the YWCA that offers so much to families in our community.” said Michael Haberer, General Manager of 91.7 GIANT FM and Country 89.
“It was great to bring our Cardboard House display to Seaway Mall for the second time now, and to combine the awareness it brings with this incredible fundraising campaign. We are amazed by the money that was raised thanks to the efforts of Seaway Mall, GiantFM and the community at large,” said Franziska Emslie, Community & Public Relations Coordinator at YWCA Niagara Region, “It was truly humbling to see how willingly the Welland community embraced ‘Building Up’ Homelessness, and how many individuals and businesses chose to support the campaign. Many people are not aware that the YW serves the entire Niagara Region, so to be able to spread that awareness meant the world to us.”
